Areas of Expertise
After a woman reaches menopause, either naturally (13 months since her last menstrual period), or surgically ( after a complete hysterectomy), many physical and emotional changes will occur. We want to encourage a healthy transition, and help our patients achieve optimal health and a good quality of life despite some of the challenges that may develop. We offer treatment options for menopausal symptoms: hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, mood changes, including hormone replacement therapy in the form of oral medication, topical creams or gels, patches, injections, as well as bioidentical hormone supplements. Non-hormonal options are available as well. Treatment should be based on patient's symptoms, quality of life, and risk factors for certain female cancers and cardiovascular problems. Hormone testing (blood work) is an option offered here if desired after counseling with your respective physician.
Treatments for female hyposexual desire disorder (decreased libido) and dyspareunia (painful intercourse) are also available.
More importantly, we encourage good bone health and cardiovascular health because these are the two greatest medical problems that women face after menopause. A diet and/or supplements in Calcium and Vitamin D, weight-bearing exercise, and periodic DEXA/bone density testing for osteoporosis is advised and available at our office. Achieving normal weight and blood pressure, as well as monitoring cholesterol and risks for heart disease is another service we offer.
