Francis J. Cardinale, MD

Dr. Cardinale is originally from Patterson, La. He received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He earned his M.D.degree from LSU school of Medicine in New Orleans and completed his specialty training at LSU in 1982.

He started his private practice in Kaplan, La. In 1988 he relocated to Lafayette as a member of the Hamilton Medical Group for 4 years, He then entered solo practice for another 2 years. In 1994 he was one of the founding members of Acadiana Womens Health Group, formed by the merger of 4 different medical practices, representing 10 OBGYN physicians. At that time this was the largest group of OB-GYN’s in the state of Louisiana. He has served as its President for the past 20 years.

Dr. Cardinale enjoys all aspects of a general OB-GYN practice, especially minimally invasive surgery and menopause management. He currently has privileges at Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Lafayette Surgicare, Lafayette General Hospital, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Park Place Surgical Hospital.

Throughout his career, he has been an active member of the medical staff and has served in numerous capacities. He is a member of the Lafayette Parish and Lousiana State Medical Society, American Congress of OB-GYN, North American Menopause Society, AAGL (a society for advancement of minimally invasive surgery for women.

Dr. Cardinale has been married to his wife, Diane, for 41 years. They are most proud of their 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Notably, his youngest child, Mario, is an OB-GYN and joined him at AWHG in 2017.

In his spare time away from work, he enjoys spending time with his family and the outdoors- including, fishing, golf, and the beach.
